The team behind Hyper.
Database research, built for the real world.
We build the analytical database engine behind Tableau and Salesforce Data 360. Our work brings together query optimization, SQL semantics and low-level systems engineering to make interactive analytics fast and reliable.

Our research roots
Born at TUM.
of Munich
Hyper began in 2008 at the Technical University of Munich under professors Alfons Kemper and Thomas Neumann. Originally named HyPer, short for Hybrid High Performance, it explored how modern hardware could change database design.
That research established the foundations of Hyper's compiling query engine. More than 50 peer-reviewed publications followed, sharing ideas with the wider database community. Both professors continue to serve as technical advisors to Salesforce, and we maintain close relationships with TUM's database research groups, supporting ongoing research and keeping us connected to the university's exceptional talent pool.
Two foundational papers were recognized in 2021 with the IEEE ICDE 10-year influential paper award and the VLDB Test of Time Award.
